Ageing is a global phenomenon which is pushing the scientific community toward the development of
innovative solutions in the context of Well & Active Ageing. World Health Organization defines healthy
ageing as “the process of developing and maintaining the functional ability that enables wellbeing in older
age”. Functional ability is about having the capabilities that enable all people to be and do what they have
reason to value. Functional ability consists of the intrinsic capacity of the individual, relevant environmental
characteristics and the interaction between them. Technologies and related services represent an
important part of the environmental component of the healthy ageing. This School on "Active and Healthy
Ageing, Well Being and Smart Living: challenges and enabling technology" focuses the above subject under
different perspectives. As first, the impact of technologies on the society will be focused on the user
perspective showing the role of digital tools for citizen empowerment and person-centered care which are
of high relevance for active and healthy ageing. Challenging and hot topics related to technological
developments will be also addressed, such as sensors and multi-sensor systems, robotics and advanced
signal processing and data handling. The third addressed sector is related to architectural aspects in the
design of user-centered environments and infrastructures. The 2022 school is organized through remote
sessions.
